COMMENTS about second album "DOWN UP DOWN":
(Review by ROUGH TRADE)
A real gorgeous shock, 'Down Up Down' flourishes with lush production, a musicality that sounds like it was drenched in the stream of legend and above all with Kinzli's soaring voice. While she clearly possess an instrument that could effortlessly scale any genre, here she manages to hone it into a crystal-sharp diamond. In fact the album seems like a box of jewellery, with each song glittering in surprises - a marching drum beat refrain, a stirring string session, an effortless operatic vocal which swoops down to a folky whisper.
There are so many great ideas here gleaned from all the best aspects of modern music - splashes of avant garde techniques, dashes of folk music that this is one of those records you just can't believe isn't on a major and soundtracking people's lives.

Kinzli is a singer songwriter who along with her mates, The kiloWatts has delivered a great collection of songs. Vocally her voice is interesting, a bit folk, a bit operatic and a big part pop. Lyrically, she's eclectic, the album kicks of with Don't Shoot, a reflectively haunting start while The Land of Il (3 Part Dance) is about brainwashing by Kim Jung Il. Immediately, you get the fact that we're listening to a writer with integrity who has lived a life and is determined to express her art. At the very heart of this work is sterling songwriting delivered with a delicious pop feel.
Recorded mostly in her bedroom, there is an intimate and at times live feel to Down Up Down and the album grabs you from start to finish. Each song is like a short story and we're never sure what's going to happen until the end. The songs meander from the challenging We Walk For Peace to the dreamily romantic in Stargazing.
It's an album full of surprises and clever musical touches. It's also refreshingly honest. Kinzli should be a star. She's talented enough, has a great voice and with this album, deserves any recognition she receives. In terms of talent, she certainly stands out from the current female singer songwriters doing the rounds and must wonder what she has to do have a major breakthrough. She doesn't strike me as someone who would get a huge beehive, tattoos and a crack habit in order to become famous.

A powerful self-assured album by an up and coming London-based artist who deserves great success.
An incredibly eclectic album, which takes the listener from Hawaii to Burma with a diverse range of instrumentation always underpinned by Kinzli's own voice, uke and guitar. Particular mention should go to the contribution of Barbara Bartz, whose violin playing always compliments, and the musical arrangements and production which ensure that no two songs sound alike. From the personal to political issues, both local as on the anti-gun crime, "Don't Shoot" and global as on the positive response to the Burmese situation, 'We walk for peace', Kinzli never fails to deliver a strong lyric. While there is much which is thought provoking, this is no po-faced protest album, there is even a song, "The Future", about having alien friends over for tea. Cello, synthesizers, North Korea, escape, escapism, and reality both grim and happy, this is an album which defies categorisation. Except as one of the best of 2010.

Kinzli is the new star of our time! This album was awesome. The best song on the album, LISTEN TO IT FIRST. is #6 (I Read Your Letter).
The songwriting is phenomenal and hits your heart and brain. Her voice is BREATH TAKING! you feel like you are sitting across from her listening to her sing! You feel and hear her express herself and her talents and gifts exceptionally on this track. #6!! (I Read Your Letter) I cried the first time I heard it, bc I could feel the heart, the expression, and the words and this showcases her GIFTED talents as a singer, songwriter, and performer. Plus, the MUSIC is amazing. I love the instruments, it goes fast to slow, and the musicianship and overall song and POWER IN IT beautifully comes through!!
This album rocks and will hit your soul!! AMAZING JOB ON THIS CD!!!

Strong second showing from Kinzli. Fans of the first album will find all the sweetness of tone, emotional intensity and diversity of 'Going Just to be going' but the increased sophistication of the song writing and arrangements on display here deserve to bring her a wider audience. Watery Air (love that drumming), Star Gazing and Don't Shoot the standout tracks for me.
